Performing a basic search in eLibrary is fairly simple. The first step is choosing a topic. The more narrow your topic, the easier it will be to find what your looking for (ex: instead of searching"dogs" try searching "Golden Retriever puppies"). Then you type it into the search bar. The next step is to choose the form of publication you want your information from by clicking the check boxes under the search bar. You can choose from newspapers, magazines, books, maps, websites, etc. After choosing your topic and form of publication, click the search button located at the end of the search bar. Once you have clicked "search" you can choose what kind of information you want to see, such as general information, literature, or history. You can also sort the information using the bar on the left by choosing keywords, result type, topics, and date range. If you find that this was not the information you were looking for, you can click "refine search" link at the top of the page. When the search page comes up, the results will be listed with the link to the source, author, reading level, and date.

Advanced Search:
Performing an advanced search in eLibrary is a little more complex. You start out again with typing what you want to search into the search bar. After that, you can choose the form of publication you want. Now here's where things change: your next step is to choose if you want to "include newspaper articles older than 90 days" and whether to "search within scholarly journals only." If you do then click the check boxes next to those options. However, if you choose to search within scholarly journals only then your only form of publication will be magazines. Once that is done, you can either click the search button or fill out the bottom search section entitled "More Search Options." In this section you can search a specific document. You do that by first choosing a date range. After that you can choose a topic or subtopic by clicking "select topic" next to the topic bar. Next, choose the language of the document in to drop down bar and typing in its title & author. The next step is to choose the reading level in the drop down bar. The last step is to choose the publication name by clicking on "select a publication" next to the publication name bar and click search.
